This month's Screen St Ives film is "Lee".
Lee tells the story of American photographer and war correspondent Lee Miller (Kate Winslet), who was determined to document the truth of the Nazi regime during World War II. Defying expectations for women at the time, she travelled to the front lines for Vogue magazine, capturing some of the most significant and horrific images of the war, including the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp. The film, a passion project for star Kate Winslet, explores her journey from a celebrated fashion model to a fearless photojournalist and the immense personal trauma she endured from what she witnessed. The narrative is framed by a later-life interview as Miller grapples with her past and the price of bearing witness to history’s atrocities.
