More Information (Ouse Valley Radio is not responsible for external websites)
Join us at the Dark Sky designated site of Ramsey Heights Countryside Centre in the heart of the Great Fen for an evening of cosmology and stargazing delivered by Dr Fred Stevenson (Astronomer at Kielder Observatory). Dr Stevenson obtained a degree in Physics with Astrophysics from the University of Leicester in 1980 followed by a PhD in Cosmology from Durham University in 1986. After further research he has spent the past twenty five years teaching adult education classes in astronomy, physics and mathematics at a variety of venues throughout Northumberland, County Durham and North Yorkshire.
First learn about the scale of the universe - discussing just how big it is and how far away objects are that we see in the night sky. Then Dr Stevenson will discuss Jupiter (our brightest object in the night sky bar the moon) and how it relates to the Earth and other planets that orbit the Sun. Experience the night sky with an interactive stargazing planetarium programme, and - weather conditions permitting - have a look at Jupiter through a telescope.
Please note: This event will go ahead regardless of the weather. If stargazing isn't possible, Dr Stevenson will give an additional talk on Earth alongside the planetarium programme.
A photographer may be taking pictures for Wildlife Trust BCN use so please let us know if you'd rather not be included.
