Screen St Ives presents its June film "Hamnet" which is a fictionalized historical drama, based on Maggie O’Farrell’s 2020 novel Hamnet, directed by Chloé Zhao, exploring the profound grief of William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal) and his wife Agnes (Jessie Buckley) following the death of their 11-year-old son, Hamnet, from the Black Plague in 1590s Warwickshire. The film focuses on their different ways of coping—Agnes through intense, earthy mourning and William through creative escape in London—eventually inspiring the writing of his masterpiece, Hamlet.
