Ferrars Hall Care Home in Huntingdon recently made a heartfelt wish come true for two of its residents, Jean Mitchell and Jean Rickett, with a special day out in London.
As part of Country court cares Make a Wish initiative, the team surprised the ladies; fondly known as the two Jeans - along with two carers, with a memorable trip to London to enjoy a theatre experience. Both Jean Mitchell and Jean Rickett had expressed a wish to return to the theatre, with Jean Rickett, originally from London, longing to relive a cherished memory of seeing a show in the West End.
After surprising the residents with their theatre tickets and dinner reservations, beautifully presented in gold envelopes, both ladies were overjoyed, with Jean Rickett becoming emotional and shedding tears of happiness.
A private taxi collected the group directly from the care home and transported them to London. The ladies enjoyed a pre-theatre meal at The original Ivy, before heading to St Martin’s Theatre to watch Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap”, the longest running show in the West End, from there very own private box.
Dressed in their best outfits and pearls, both residents thoroughly enjoyed the experience, taking in the atmosphere of the theatre and making lasting memories throughout the day.
A carer who accompanied the residents said:
“It was such a lovely day from start to finish. Seeing how much they enjoyed the experience made it incredibly special for everyone involved.”
One of the two Jeans shared how grateful she was, adding that she hoped “something this nice happens to everyone.”
As Ferrars Hall Care Home approaches its 10-year anniversary, experiences like this underline the value of listening to residents’ wishes and creating moments that offer comfort, enjoyment and lasting memories.
The visit forms part of Country Court Care’s person-centred approach and comes as Ferrars Hall Care Home prepares to mark ten years of supporting residents and their families.
