Since our re-launch as Ouse Valley Radio in November this year, our listeners have remarked upon how the sound of our station has changed for the better.  We have a number of new presenters bringing the studio a fresh lease of life and has helped us gain more listeners. Over the Christmas period we have been working in the background to bring you new and exciting festive programmes.

We are one of the very few community stations which has its own well established drama unit, which takes pride in broadcasting radio soap operas, stories, poems and podcasts all written and performed by local authors and actors.

A great example of this, is our unique radio panto which will be played out twice over the Christmas period on Boxing Day at 7pm and repeated on 2nd January at 7pm.  “The Wand in the Willows” was written by local author Jon Mountford in just 2 weeks!  It’s a terrific panto with all the traditional comedy features.  Sue Rodwell-Smith who has been the Drama Unit’s director for 10 years together with Jon Mountford and Tina Yates, a cast member, talked to Norman Knapper on our Over to You show about the making of the panto on Monday 15th December.  This can be heard on our Listen Again service.

On Christmas Eve at 7pm, Pete Singleton has curated a truly festive one off programme to begin our celebrations.  “Carols Across the Valley” is compilation of the nation’s most favourite carols with Silent Night topping the list.  A real Christmas treat, which reminds us of Christmas past, present and future.

A different one off special is our combined country genre show on Christmas Eve at 8pm, when our veteran presenters John & Jackie, come together with Paul Jackson to present "A County Christmas" which is an amalgam of old and new styles of country music.

Christmas Day wouldn’t be the same if we didn't have a very special programme put together by our main Spotlight presenter, Martin West.  This year he brings us “Westy’s Christmas Cracker” live from our Huntingdon studios from 10am, just the right content to hear whilst you prepare for Christmas dinner!   Later in the day from 1pm, Sue Rodwell-Smith presents her Christmas Afternoon show which will include the King’s Christmas message at 3pm.

Every evening during Christmas week, Tony Obee chairs his special brand of Christmas Late Shows from 10pm.  So don’t miss out on all these seasonal shows designed exclusively for you.

A very Merry Christmas from all of us at Ouse Valley Radio.
