The Huntingdonshire History Festival is registered charity, run solely by volunteers and was started in 2018 by a group of local people to raise awareness and promote the rich heritage of the old county of Huntingdonshire.
In the first year there were more than 40 events staged in different venues mostly across Huntingdon town, but since then it has developed an annual programme of events and activities every July which takes place in towns and villages across the district, including talks, guided tours, reenactment events, exhibitions, family activities and nature walks – many of these being free of charge.
In 2025 the Festival took on the old Oxfam bookshop in Huntingdon and relaunched it as the Next Chapter Bookshop; profits from the shop support the festival’s activities and offer small grants to support heritage projects across the district.
