Our Charity of the Month for November is the Coneygear Community Centre

Our Charity of the Month for November is the Coneygear Community Centre in Buttsgrove Way, on Oxmoor, Huntingdon.

The Coneygear Centre is at the heart of the community, with several different sized function rooms; a brand-new community library with computers and tablets; changing rooms; a commercial kitchen and more!

The Coneygear Centre is home to our Coneygear Seniors, Moody Mondays, the Oxmoor Friendship Club, an abundance of health and fitness classes as well as other community groups and activities. The Centre is situated on Coneygear Park, with views of the play area, park and award-winning Community Garden.

In 2022, The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) ran a competition to gift one community garden to each of the UK’s four home nations, that would be designed by a professional garden designer. Huntingdon In Bloom applied for this unique opportunity to create an inclusive and welcoming space for everyone within our community to access and enjoy.

Working in partnership with the BBC One Show, shortly after announcing that our application had been shortlisted, BBC presenter Jo Whiley came to visit our wonderful park. That is when we discovered we had won the community garden for England on national television!

The garden is here for all in the community to love, look after and learn from. Whether you want to walk through and enjoy the different colours, shapes and scents, or to lend a hand with weeding and watering, this space is yours to enjoy. If you would like to become involved with the community garden, please pop into the community centre. All ages, abilities and amounts of time welcome!
