Residents are invited to join Huntingdon's annual acts of remembrance this November as the town comes together to honour those who have lost their lives in military conflicts.

The Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service will take place on Sunday 8th November followed by the annual Armistice Day Service on Wednesday 11th November.

The commemorations are organised by Huntingdon Town Council, in partnership with the Royal British Legion (Huntingdon Branch) and RAF Wyton, working together to ensure the town's traditions of remembrance continue with dignity and respect. The events provide an opportunity for veterans, serving personnel, cadet organisations, community groups and residents to reflect on the sacrifices made by generations of servicemen and women.

On Remembrance Sunday, 8 November, the military parade will assemble in Princes Street Car Park before marching through the town centre to the Market Square, where the Service of Remembrance will begin at 10:45am. The service will include the Act of Remembrance, the Two-Minute Silence, the Reveille and wreath laying by civic representatives, military organisations and community groups. Following the service, the parade will reform and march along the High Street, where the civic party will receive the salute.

Veterans are warmly invited to take part in the Remembrance Sunday commemorations by joining the Royal British Legion contingent in the Market Square ahead of the service. Veterans who wish to do so are also welcome to join the parade following the service.

To ensure the commemorations are as accessible as possible, a designated viewing area will be available for wheelchair users and those with mobility requirements. The service will also include British Sign Language interpretation provided by the Chaplain for the Deaf.

The Armistice Day Service will take place at the War Memorial in the Market Square on Wednesday 11 November, commencing at 10:55am ahead of the National Two-Minute Silence at 11:00am. The service will include prayers, the Act of Remembrance and the laying of wreaths in honour of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Councillor Patrick Kadewere, Mayor of Huntingdon, said:

“Remembrance is an important opportunity for our community to come together and honour those who have served, sacrificed and given their lives in defence of the freedoms we enjoy today.

Whether attending in person, listening from elsewhere in the town centre or joining us online, I encourage residents of all ages to take a moment to reflect on the service and sacrifice of generations past and present. These acts of remembrance ensure that their legacy is never forgotten.”

Councillor Karl Webb, Armed Forces Champion for Huntingdon Town Council, added:

"These commemorations hold a special place in the hearts of the Armed Forces community, but they are also an opportunity for the whole town to come together in remembrance. I would particularly encourage local veterans to join us. Your presence helps ensure that the spirit of remembrance remains strong for future generations."

Lest we forget.
