Huntingdon Town Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Rob Bradshaw as the Town’s new Macebearer for 2026-27, a role that plays an important part in supporting the Mayor and maintaining the civic traditions of Huntingdon.
Rob’s appointment also continues a family connection to the role. His grandfather, Fred Bradshaw, served as Huntingdon’s Macebearer for 25 years from the 1960s to the early 1990s, making the appointment a particularly meaningful one.
Rob is well known to many residents through his work with the Council, where he serves as Cemeteries and Crematorium Supervisor within the Grounds Team. Outside of his work with the Council, Rob is heavily involved with Danceability, a popular social club and dance night for people with additional needs.
The position of Macebearer is one of the town’s oldest civic roles, with Huntingdon’s Mace dating back to 1688. At civic and ceremonial events, the Mace is carried before the Mayor and serves as a visible reminder of the history and traditions of local government. As Macebearer, Rob will accompany the Mayor to a wide range of engagements throughout the year, including civic services, remembrance parades and events, and civic council meetings.
Cllr Patrick Kadewere, Mayor of Huntingdon, said:
“I am delighted to welcome Rob as Huntingdon’s new Macebearer. His commitment to the community, both through his work with the Council and his involvement with Danceability, makes him an excellent ambassador for the town. The role of Macebearer is an important part of our civic traditions, and the fact that Rob is continuing a family connection to the office makes his appointment particularly special. I look forward to working closely with him throughout my mayoral year.”
Rob Bradshaw, Macebearer for Huntingdon Town Council, said:
“It is a real honour to be appointed as Huntingdon’s Macebearer. Having grown up knowing that my grandfather served in the role for many years, it is particularly special to follow in his footsteps. Huntingdon has a rich history and strong sense of community. I am proud to serve the town in this capacity and support the Mayor in representing the town at civic events.”
Huntingdon Town Council congratulates Rob on his appointment and wishes him every success in the role.
