Ouse Valley Radio presenters are always busy within our community listening to people and talking to people. But occasionally our presenters go that extra mile.
Karl and Julie Brockett are just two of those people. Karl and Julie were presenters on our airwaves with their Huntingdon Nostalgia programme for 2 years until, due to the pressure of their other work, they gave it up in January. However, we are happy to reveal that they will return to our airwaves as from this July with a renewed nostalgia show. Recently, Karl was honoured by the ancient Order of St George and welcomed as a Knight and Julie became a Dame.
The International Knightly Order Valiant of St George is a worldwide confraternity of men and women who seek to support, in a modest way, the timeless social virtues of compassion, charity, faithfulness and courage – in a word, chivalry. The Order takes their inspiration from the original Order of St George, established in 1326 in Hungary, which was the very first royal and military order of chivalry.
Membership in the Order is open to men and women over the age of 21. Nomination for membership in the Order recognizes and celebrates achievements in the community, whether large or small. Membership is an honour that will only be awarded to people who deserve it; they should be people who have changed things for the better. This comes in the wake of the couple being invited to the Kings Garden Party in Buckingham Palace recently, in recognition of their charity work.
Karl was elected councillor for the Hinchingbrooke Park Ward on Huntingdon Town Council 4 years ago. In 2023/24 he served additionally as the Deputy Mayor and in 2024/25 he was elected as Town Mayor. Karl has a passion for recent town history and for over 10 years has been the chairman of the local Huntingdonshire Nostalgia group.
